If you haven't ever been to a parkour jam, what takes place is relaxing, fun, and filled with adventure. Check out Wasatch Parkour to get connected with the Community. How could training parkour with a bunch of new and old friends not be. I can remember in years past for National Parkour Day different experiences with guys through the years. Some of my favorite moments are due to the challenge and nature of parkour while doing it with other guys that I looked up to.
Last year we decided to do a Nature themed Jam up in little cottonwood Canyon. I was able to revisit the fist places I began training 8 years ago. Back in those days I was doing a lot of trail running. With a fresh eye for parkour movement I found great nature locations up the canyon. At first I had trouble getting myself to use my hands to move around the environment. I was too used to using my legs to get about. Im sure these challenges are the same for most other people at times.
The nice locations in Little Cottonwood canyon for parkour are mostly all pretty close together. There is an old run down pavilion that is great for basic vaults and movement. All over there are rocks and soft dirt for fun movement. The real challenge is moving through such an unorganized terrain. I at times have gotten to used to the geometric patterns of man made structures, The best part is just being out and in touch with nature.
The University of Utah features some great locations for parkour. Almost every building features something that can be played on.
One of the things I have always tried to do is create that sense of community and bonding whey a group of us get together. Hopefully this years National Parkour Day will be just as much of an adventure and memorable experience as others in the past.
Join us for this years National Parkour Day Jam. June 6th. We will be meeting up at the University of Utah at 10:00 AM. Around 4:00 PM we will meet again up in Little Cottonwood Canyon with food for a BBQ and nature training.
